Every year, when we holidayed in France, we dreamt about buying a home. In 2018, we spotted this house advertised in a magazine. It seemed to fit our criteria, namely 4-bedrooms, a large swimming pool, 1.5-acre gardens, and situated in a quiet hamlet in South West France.
We scooted over to have a look, and instantly fell in love with it. Four months later, we were the proud owners of Les Trois Fers. For us, it is a dream come true. We love the house, the extensive gardens and the swimming pool. We love waking up to the tranquillity of the small hamlet and birdsongs. At night, there is no light pollution. On a clear night, we gaze up at the stars, enjoy a glass of wine and put the world to rights.
The house nestles in a quiet hamlet and enjoys the tranquillity of the French countryside. But if you need a bit of retail therapy, cafes or restaurants, we are just a 5-minute drive from Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, one of the plus beaux villages de France (prettiest villages in France). The village offers plenty of characterful shops, restaurants and quaint streets to explore. Locally there is plenty to see and do including popular river beaches for swimming, safe canoeing, art and craft shops and the amazing historic underground church which holds wonderful concerts in summer.
The house is furnished with new and period items,
antiques, decorations and paintings creating a special homely ambiance that you won't find in a regular holiday rental.
The main house has 4 bedrooms, sleeping 8 people.
There is a very pretty garden with some gorgeous roses, vines, wisteria and lavenders as well as extensive lawns and secluded areas to enjoy. The 10m x 5m swimming pool has a Roman end with steps and it is purified by salt, so very gentle on the skin and no nasty chlorine smells. It is surrounded by a large paved terrace with palm tree, roses and olive trees from where you have lovely views down the Dronne valley. There is plenty of space to relax on loungers or poolside furniture and soak up some sunshine before another dip in the pool.
By the back-covered deck there's a pond which is home to singing frogs, gold fish and dragon flies.
