Sitting in the 7th Arrondissement on the left bank of the Seine, the area of Les Invalides and the Eiffel Tower is one of Paris’ most iconic neighbourhoods; filled with incredible architecture, culture and history. Take a stroll around the grounds of Les Invalides and enjoy the architecture of the Cathedral and galleries as well as seeing the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte. As you walk along the Champ de Mars, you will get a fantastic view of the incredible Eiffel Tower: certainly Paris’ most iconic structure and a symbol of the city. You can look out over the city from the observation level which stands at 276m above the ground and offers incredible views of the rest of the city. Ensure that you book your tickets in advance to avoid the extremely long queues. For something a little different from the regular tourist route, why not take in a movie at La Pagode, one of the most beautiful and picturesque film theatres in France?
The Invalides and Champ de Mars areas are filled with excellent restaurants that cater to every taste and budget. Les Cocottes is one of the best bistros in Paris for quality of food, price, swiftness of service and general ambience. The Basque themed Chez L'Ami Jean is a real hit with locals and tourists alike for its delicious bread baked on-site and excellent menu. Meanwhile, Le Jules Vernes is the restaurant at the observation level of the Eiffel Tower, so the views are stunning but are prepared to pay some eye-watering prices for the privilege of eating in this iconic location. For an evening drink, try Café Thoumieux near Les Invalides for a laid back bar with cocktails, tapas and live sport while Bar du Central on Rue Saint-Dominique is good for a late-night tipple. Perhaps the best bar in the whole of the 7th Arrondissement is Fitzgerald on Boulevard de la Tour. It’s a hidden bar and unmarked from the outside so you have to know that it’s there but the speakeasy vibe and classy cocktail list is well worth the effort of finding it. In the summer months, many locals and tourists alike flock to the docks on the banks of the Seine to enjoy a drink in the sunshine, or even a party on a barge known as a péniche.
